Prison Action Wisconsin is organized to support our loved ones incarcerated in the Wisconsin Prison System and address issues including conditions of confine-ment, DOC mandated programs of rehabilitation, and Parole Commission acountability. PAW is not a post release assistance organization.
Goals: To inform the public of individual abuses and systemic problems within the DOC.
To challenge the Parole Commission to release our loved ones in accordance with legislative and judicial intent.
To lobby legislators on behalf of our loved ones and our communities.
To provide a safe place where families of incarcerated can come together to discuss our experiences and develop strategies to counter the DOC and PC.

What can I do?

Many people come to PAW hoping that PAW can do something for their loved one. It is possible that PAW has an on-going campaign that fits your concerns. More often though, PAW cannot do anything directly for your loved one. PAW may not even be working on the issue that is affecting your loved one.

The best way you can effect the concerns you have, is to join PAW, join a committee that is working on issues or campaigns that may help your loved one. If there is no such committee, start one and see if there are others who want to help. To paraphrase JFK, ask not what PAW can do for you, ask what you can do for PAW. People coming to PAW should be asking, “what can I do to build this organization, how can I help with what you are already doing?”

Whatever is happening to your loved one is also happening to hundreds of other men and women behind bars. Effective change will come when we join together and work together. The DOC and Parole Commission will listen to us when we have numbers. The power to demand change lies in the united voice of the people.

All power to the people!

Prison Action Wisconsin is a newly formed organization with roots of prison activism that go back many years. Some of the founders of PAW are active in other prison reform/abolition efforts.
